We have been greatly aided by the Compton Foundation and their
awarding of a
Compton Mentor Fellowship to
Berea College graduate Tricia Feeney. Tricia's work,
primarily in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia around
water security and the adverse impacts on families and communities
from mountain top removal mining (mtr) has thus far been tireless
and inspiring. She will be leading a large delegation of coalfield
residents to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable
Development in May to voice their "no such thing as clean coal"
message and to promote renewable energy and conservation.
In-kind contributions from board members and founding organizations
provide the bulk of the coalition's resources. We welcome
foundation support for our programs and for general capacity
building. While we envision some innovative funding strategies
outside of traditional foundation sources, we recognize that
foundation support will be required to effectively implement our
vision.
The Appalachian Coalition is a 501(c)3 organization.
